25 ANS DE MUSIQUE EN TOURAINE CÔTÉ SUD

A LOCHES ET BEAULIEU-lès-LOCHES

C'est l'histoire d'une rencontre entre un lieu, des artistes et des amoureux de musique. Quand Jean-Christophe Gayot, hauboïste à l'Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, découvre le Lochois dans son écrin paisible bordé par l'Indre que chérissait Balzac, il y croise des amateurs de musique de chambre et visite des lieux qui inspirent. Une association se constitue, les Sonates d'Automne en Lochois, les musiciens amis lancent avec lui les premiers concerts, le public répond présent, des élus voient dans ce festival embryonnaire une mise en valeur potentielle du patrimoine local.

Et puis, l'été et le temps des vacances s'éloignant, quoi de plus réconfortant que la perspective de week ends en musique au seuil de l'automne ? Nous étions en 1991...

Vingt-cinq ans et des dizaines de concerts plus tard, en compagnie des plus grands, de Bach à Dutilleux et d'artistes de haute lignée venant le temps de deux week ends enchanter l'église Saint-Laurent à Beaulieu-lès-Loches, le Logis Royal dans la Ville Haute et l'église Saint-Antoine  à Loches, nous nous sommes trouvés de nouveau réunis pour fêter cette année les pionniers qui ont façonné les Sonates d'Automne, accompagnés de la nouvelle génération d'artistes qu'ils ont formés et qui deviennent des maîtres à leur tour, comme une belle promesse pour les décennies à venir.

The Sonates d'Automne

25 years of Chamber Music in South Touraine, at Loches and Beaulieu-lès-Loches, in the beautiful Indre Valley.

It is the story of an encounter between a place, musicians and music lovers. When Jean-Christophe Gayot, an oboist with the Philarmonic Orchester of Radio France, discovered the area of Loches in its peaceful setting on the banks of the Indre, so dear to Balzac, he met lovers of chamber music and visited places which inspired him. Musicians friends of his started the first concerts, the association Sonates d'Automne en Lochois formed, the public responded positively, local municipalities saw in this embryonic festival an opportunity for showing to their best advantage the historic buildings of the area.

And then, with Summer and the holidays behind one, what could be more comforting than the prospect of musical weekends as Autumn approaches? All this was in 1990...

25 years and dozens of concerts later, which have brought us the works of the greatest names in music, from Bach to Dutilleux, played by musicians of high repute, we met together once more this year. Over the years musicians have come for two weekends to bring to life the church of St Laurent in Beaulieu-lès-Loches, and in Loches itself the Logis Royal in the castle and the church of St Antoine.

In this anniversary year we celebrated not only the pioneers who fashioned the Sonates d'Automne, but also the new generation of musicians whom they formed, and who in their turn have became the masters, giving us the promise of pleasure for many years to come.
